Textures

Textures are used in the characters, environments, vehicles and weapons in games.Without the textures the graphics would be very basic. When the modeler creates the 3D models they'er white, like clay. Then someone puts on the texture to make the image photo realistic, cartoony or cel shading.

Concept art

A concept artist is important for films and games mainly. They draw what the boss wants in their game/film like characters, vehicle, environment or weapons. Then once the boss likes what the concept artist has drawn the pictures are used by the 3D modelers so they know what they can model for their boss. They also help the sound people create sounds for the weapons and vehicles. they help the level designers design the environments from the artists drawings.

sport, fantasy, simulation, action, and adventure games

Sport games are different. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games was realest because the Olympics was in Beijing in 2008 and the game is about you playing in the Olympic games as a characters from the Mario or Sonic games and race in 24 events based on the Olympic games. Another sport game is tiger woods PGA tour which unlike Mario and sonic at the Olympic games, its trying to be photo realistic. Another difference is tiger woods is a golf game where Mario and Sonic is races.

Simulation games try to be like real life the Sims which is were you have a home, job and a family but it doesn't cover stuff like a credit crunch or a robbery or a fire. Another simulation game would be call of duty because it simulates real war time situations like abusing your enemies or being ambushed.

fantasy games use stuff like myths, legends, wizards, dragon, kings, witches, gods etc. a fantasy game I'm playing at the moment is golden axe beast rider and what you do in this game is you go thought the story as a female character trying to get all the pieces of this golden axe that had been broken. Afro Samaria is also a Fantasy game, but not just any Fantasy game because it's Cel shaded and it's futuristic.

action and adventure games  are probable the most abundant. too human is an action adventure game as you go through the story as a god that protects the human race by defeating robots and zombies.  a brilliant action adventure game would be mass effect which is were you play as a person named shepherd and go through the Galaxy e to find Saren

3D games

In 3D games there is depth as well as height and width which gives you more realism especially when you can turn and shoot someone on halo no mater where there are unless there's someone or something in the way. In more recent years 3D games have became more popular due to games like Halo, Gears Of War or Mass Effect which are played on the Xbox 360.

Exaggeration, Cartoon, Cel shading, Photo realistic games

Exaggeration games will have bigger eyes or smaller noses. Eternal Sonata is an exaggeration game or Fate/unlimited codes.

Those games can also be known as cartoony but there are games that are more cartoony like Sonic the hedgehog or Shadow the hedgehog.

Cel shading games are given more of a comic look such as afro samurai or ed, edd n eddy: the miss edventures.

Most of the games that are recent or that are coming soon are trying to become photo realistic such as halo, gears of war or Forza motorsport 3.

2D games

2D games are flat and basic. they were very popular in the 80's and early 90's, because they didn't have the machines with the complexity of handling of 3D games. There was the Gameboy and Atari Jaguar are 2 2D consoles. There was A.V.P which came out on the Xbox 360 in 3D later on, another 2D game is sonic which is on the gameboy and what you do on sonic is go through different levels to get to the boss.
